Dribble goggles, also called dribbling glasses

Dribble With Your Eyes Up, Not on the Ball

Basketball dribble goggles (dribbling glasses) are a ball-handling training aid with an open frame and no lenses. The solid lower panel blocks your view below the chest, so with your head up you cannot see the ball and you dribble by feel.

Picture the next game. The press comes, and your player brings it up the floor with their head up, spots the open teammate, and delivers the pass before the defense turns. The other bench notices. So do the parents in the stands. That poise gets built in practice, one heads-up rep at a time.

$3.99 a pair. One size fits all, kids to adults, with an adjustable strap. Coaching a team? Grab a team pack of 10 to 25 pairs.

Why players wear them

Eyes on the Court, Ball by Feel

  • The bottom panel blocks the view of the ball, not the court
  • Breaks the habit of peeking down, even for good dribblers
  • Works with the dribbling drills you already run
  • One size fits kids to adults, adjustable strap
How they work

How Do Dribble Goggles Work?

Dribble goggles, sometimes called blinders or dribble specs, block your vision below the chest. With your head up, you cannot see anything below your chest. You still see the court, the rim, your teammates, and the defense. What you lose is the ball. To see it you would have to tip your whole head down, so your hands have to learn to control it by feel.

Most players do not stare straight at the ball. They watch it out of the corner of their eye. The goggles take that peripheral peek away, which is why even good dribblers start fumbling the first time they wear them. That is the habit you are breaking.

Coaching point: eyes up, read the defense, dribble by feel. If a player has to tilt their chin to the chest to find the ball, the goggles are doing their job.

Why it matters

Do Dribble Goggles Really Help?

Youth basketball player in dribble goggles pounding the ball low in a defensive stance with his eyes up

A player who has to look at the ball cannot see the open teammate, the help defender, or the gap to the rim. Wearing the goggles for your normal ball-handling work turns every rep into a heads-up rep, so you build greater ball control, more sensitive hands, better court awareness, and more confidence handling pressure.

They really work, and they make dribbling practice more fun and a lot more challenging. Drills players have done a hundred times feel brand new the first time they cannot see the ball.

No special workout is needed. Put them on for the dribbling drills you already do. They sit below your eye line, so you can still see the rim when you finish a drill with a shot.

From Coach Chris: "I think one thing that's missed with the dribble goggles is the fact that they are great even for older players, not just kids. I've seen high school players who put the goggles on who are pretty good dribblers, all of a sudden start losing the ball here and there. It's because they either peek occasionally at the ball or constantly see it in their peripheral vision. Basketball dribble goggles stop that."

3 Drills to Do in Dribble Goggles

1Stationary pound dribble. Low stance, pound the ball hard at knee height, 30 seconds per hand. Eyes on a spot on the wall, never the ball.
2Two-ball dribble. One ball in each hand, pound together, then alternate. With the goggles on you cannot check either ball, so both hands have to work on feel.
3Cone weave. Set 5 or 6 cones in a line and weave through with crossovers. Call out a coach's raised fingers as you go so players prove their eyes are up.

FAQ

Dribble Goggles FAQ

Do dribble goggles have lenses?

No. Dribble goggles have an open frame with nothing in front of your eyes. The solid bottom of the frame blocks your view of the ball, so you keep your eyes up and dribble by feel.

Are dribble goggles protective sports goggles?

No. Dribble goggles are a ball-handling training aid and give no eye protection. If you need eye protection for games, use sports goggles rated for basketball (look for ASTM F803).

How do dribble goggles work?

The solid lower panel of the frame blocks your vision below the chest. With your head up you cannot see the ball at all, but you can still see the court, the rim, and your teammates, so your hands learn to control the ball by feel.

Do dribble goggles really help?

Yes. They really work, and they make dribbling practice more fun and more challenging. Most players sneak looks at the ball or watch it in their peripheral vision. The goggles take that away, so every rep trains you to handle the ball without looking, which frees your eyes to read the defense.

Are dribble glasses the same as dribble goggles?

Yes. Dribble goggles, dribbling glasses, dribble specs, and basketball blinders are different names for the same training aid.

What age are dribble goggles for?

All ages. They are one size fits all, kids to adults, with an adjustable elastic strap and a soft, flexible plastic frame. Even good high school dribblers find out quickly how often they peek at the ball.

Do you sell dribble goggles for a whole team?

Yes. The Dribble Goggles Team Pack comes in 10 pairs for $39.99, 12 pairs for $46.99, 15 pairs for $56.99, or 25 pairs for $89.99, so every player gets their own pair in one order, and you save from 12 pairs up. Need 50 or more? Contact us for a quote.

Can I use dribble goggles for soccer?

Yes. Soccer players use them to keep their heads up and see the field instead of watching the ball at their feet. They work for any drill where you want to block the view below your eyes.
